Caleb Liu is an award-winning film composer and technologist whose scores merge an orchestral foundation with electronic sounds. A Stanford University School of Engineering graduate, he brings an innovator’s mindset to his compositions, seeking endless possibilities in pursuit of emotional precision. At 20, he scored his first feature film, which has since surpassed 20 million views on Youtube, and his score has earned 100k+ streams across Spotify and Apple Music. He has since built a growing body of work across independent films and promotional media.
Growing up as a Tuba player in the orchestra, Caleb has a deep admiration for classic Hollywood orchestral music and is especially drawn to leitmotif-driven writing. He draws on his technology background to explore how synth design can create unique colors on top of his orchestral scores. He composes with conviction that any sonic element - a rhythmic cell, unique combination of instruments, or a synth pulse - can hold unique and profound emotional weight. He embraces novelty in his theme-writing and instrumentation, supporting a resume spanning comedy, action, romance, and horror.
In 2025, he received Stanford University’s Senior Honors in the Arts distinction, where he wrote, directed, and scored a 30-minute short film, featuring original lyrical songs and score. That year, he also earned two Best Original Score wins in the independent festival circuit for distinct genres: a horror-comedy film and a romance film (featuring a performance by a Berlin Philharmonic violinist).
Upon graduation in June 2025, Caleb moved to Los Angeles to further develop his craft and build his network in the film community. He recently received a commission from Stanford University’s School of Engineering to score their 12 minute long centennial piece. He also has continued scoring consistently within the independent short film circuit, roughly completing one score per month. He is currently pursuing advanced orchestration training through the UCLA Extension program and collaborating with a 20th Century Studios screenwriter on a project in early development.
